a+b= a+b(sum of the previous equation)

1 + 4 = 5.

2 + 5 (plus the previous sum of 5) = 12.

3 + 9 (plus the previous sum of 12) = 21.

same logic will apply for last equation also

8 + 11 (plus the previous sum of 21) = 40.

Equation 1: 5 + 10 + 10 = 25  (So the value of a PLANT with 5 leaves is 5; Also note that there are two plants one beneath the other in second and third part of the equation 1.
